Therapy gives you safe, non judgmental support where you and your partner can share openly about your struggles and work together toward solutions. As therapists, we advocate for the relationship and respect the individual perspectives of each partner. Using evidence-based, research-driven interventions, we can provide practical tools and techniques that are proven to work. Every couple is unique, and so we provide personalized care. We tailor our sessions to meet your specific needs and goals. We want you to see real improvements in your relationships, whether you’re rebuilding after a crisis or simply looking to strengthen your bond.
The Gold Standard
At The Center for Relationship Counseling, therapist have advanced training using the Gottman Method, which most professionals consider to be the gold standard of couples therapy. The Gottman Method is a proven approach to couples therapy, backed by over 40 years of research. It focuses on strengthening your relationship, while providing tools to address challenges effectively. It is designed to help partners rebuild trust, improve communication, and deepen their emotional connection. Using this evidence based method, we provide practical tools and guidance to help you overcome challenges in your relationship.
You are the experts on your relationship.
We don’t try and help you until we know you. Unique to this method, therapy starts with the Gottman standard intake process, which is very important and sets the foundation of our work together. It entails 4 sessions (or can be done as a one day, 4 hour intensive). Counterintuitive to some of our couples, we start by getting to know your relationship history instead of jumping right into your issues. This provides a picture of the relationship and context for the therapist. The intake also includes individual sessions with each of you to get your personal history and perspective on the things that bring you to therapy. We create an environment that works to honor both perspectives and the value they bring to resolving issues. Next, you both will complete the Gottman Relationship Checklist from the Gottman Institute that identifies the unique strengths and challenges that impact the bond between a couple. Lastly, we discuss the building blocks for effectively resolving conflict, and discuss what conflict currently looks like in your relationship. From there, we can use a range of interventions the Gottmans have developed, including:
Improve Communication: Learn to express your needs and listen to your partner in ways that foster understanding and connection.
Manage Conflict: Replace unproductive arguments with constructive dialogue that resolves issues and build trust.
Rebuild Trust: Develop skills to repair your relationship after betrayals or breaches of trust.
Rekindle Intimacy: Through exercises like “Love Maps” and shared rituals, we’ll help you reignite emotional and physical closeness.
Create a Strong Partnership: Build a relationship where both partners feel valued, supported, and connected.
*Please note: I also offer a 4 Hour intensive for those couples who would like to get a quick start to the weekly therapy sessions. Fill out the contact page if you are interested to set up a time for this intensive.
Perhaps your are considering therapy, but have concerns.
Will talking about our issues in therapy make things worse?
It can be hard to discuss difficult issues in therapy, especially when you feel stuck talking about them at home. We provide a safe space where you can share and discuss all the things that have felt hard to approach on your own. You will have someone who can facilitate healing and help you repair, and rebuild the bond of your relationship. Most couples find relief in therapy because they can talk about the things they can’t talk about at home.
We’ve tried couples therapy before. How will this be any different?
If you’ve struggled with these issues for a while, it can be easy to lose hope. However, we offer more structure than typical couple’s therapy and use specific interventions to help you find relief from your relationship disconnection. Sometimes repetition is necessary to bring about lasting change, and that’s why we focus on implementing new strategies consistently until they become second nature. This include assigning homework for you to complete between sessions to encourage practice of skills learned. text goes here
How long will it take to see improvement in our relationship?
We want you to know that we understand how much you desire a healthy and fulfilling relationship and are here to help you achieve it. It will take work and time to heal and repair your relationship, but you’ll be able to practice new skills during our sessions and apply what you’ve learned outside of therapy into your daily lives. Most of our clients report seeing improvements starting during the intake process, which takes place over the first four sessions. The timeline for feeling better can vary depending on the specific issues and dynamics within your relationship. However, many couples begin to notice more significant improvements after 12-18 sessions.
